"No Surprises" Moving Experience

What is the Table of Measurements and why is it important for you to review?

Your mover will list all articles for moving on a Table of Measurements. Your cost estimate will not be binding if something was left off the Table of Measurements. The mover will add that missing kitchen set or 10 boxes upon arrival and you will be obligated to pay. Therefore, make sure you review the Table of Measurements. You can expect to pay more if you ask the movers on move-day to add any articles to the shipment.

Read the fine print: the 10% question

Ask your mover how much more you should anticipate to pay over your estimate. If you have an interstate move and a non-binding cost estimate, you will be responsible for paying the estimate plus 10% of the fee. If the interstate tariff charges are more than 10 %, you are responsible for that amount.

Free Insurance?

All movers include liability insurance in an interstate cost estimate. This liability insurance allows 60 cents per pound of a shipment. However, if a place setting of your fine china is broken, you only will receive 60 cents per pound. That's why we advise clients to purchase Carrier's Liability for Loss or Damage and to be sure you request full replacement coverage for your cherished personal and household goods.

Extra Steps - Extra Costs

Don't let any salesperson let you think that you don't have to pay for a service your moving team has to do for you. If you have a grand piano and the salesperson says you don't have to pay anything extra for that item, you have been led astray. Same thing goes for movers going up two flights of stairs instead of one, or extra articles added at the last minute. Be fair to yourself and to the movers, be clear as to what your move requires. Make sure everything is included in the cost estimate before the moving van pulls up to your home.

Three estimates - Which one?

On this one, we suggest you take the high road and play it safe. Given that Tariff charges used for cost estimates will be the same from most major moving companies and discounts are similar, choose the high estimate for a realistic cost of your move.

It's a Wrap?

If your fine china or Waterford crystal is not properly wrapped on the day of your move, your driver will not want to take any responsibility for those items. If the driver has to repack any items, it will be added to your moving cost. Plan ahead, and make sure all items are properly packed and labeled. Don't count on a driver to just wrap a pad around the item - you may get a surprise package at the end of the move you won't like.
